Creating public awareness for the impact of mangrove forests on climate mitigation and adaptation

World Life Spaces

Awareness App

Mangrove forests store up to 5 times as much CO2 as other forests, which makes them the ideal species for fighting climate change. But they also protect coastal areas from storms – a major result of climate change. As a lot of mangrove forest have been destroyed for human developments, it is very important to invest in their reforestation.

The beauty of mangroves

As it is easier to catch someone’s attention with beautiful imagery than with dry scientific facts, UNESCO has created 125 stunning posters showing their mangrove reforestation projects throughout the world. WorldLifeSpaces sponsored this App to make the posters accessible in a digital format as part of their initiatives to accelerate large scale investments in nature.

Accessibility as the key requirement

The Awarenes App is reaching out to people all over the globe – young or old, rich or poor, highly educated or without the ability to read. It therefore was the main requirement for the design of this app to make it accessible to everyone with a very simple visual navigation. The users can select countries with mangrove forests from a structured menu or they can pick them on a 3D globe. As a third and most simple option a carousel allows scrolling through all 125 posters.

Our commitment to sustainability

Sustainability is very important to all of us in the INNUXO team and we have firmly implemented it in our day-to-day life at the office. This project has given us the opportunity to employ our core expertise – creating great user experiences – for our common goal to make the world a better place – one mangrove at a time.
